ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY

To foster a productive learning environment and equip students for future employment, IAI emphasizes the importance of reliability and punctuality in attending scheduled classes. Absences and late arrivals not only impact individual learning but also place a burden on classmates, instructors, and the institution as a whole.

In the rare occasions when a student cannot arrive on time or must miss a class, it is essential to notify the Executive Director, Tamara Ward, prior to the absence or tardiness. Notifications can be made via phone, text, or email. Students are allowed up to 24 hours of absence over the 19-week program, with absences reported in increments of at least 15 minutes.

The following circumstances will not count towards the total absence time:

– Hospitalization of the student or an immediate family member*

– Bereavement leave for immediate family members (maximum of 16 hours)*

– Mandated court or jury duty

Mandated COVID-19 quarantines

A time clock system will be used to monitor attendance accurately, and reports will be available for employer review at recruitment events.

It is the student’s responsibility to make up for any lectures, worksheets, quizzes/tests, or welding tests missed during their absence.

Inadequate attendance, frequent lateness, or exceeding the allowed 24 hours of absence will disrupt the fast-paced nature of this program and will prevent the administration and instructors from providing the student with their welding credentials and an endorsement to employers. Documented violations will result in a verbal or written warning, which will lead to disciplinary action.

*Please note that no absence time is permitted during the final week of the cohort.

*Documentation will be required for allowable absences.

*Definition of Immediate Family: This refers to the student’s mother, stepmother, father, stepfather, legal guardian, spouse, child, sibling, grandparent, as well as in-laws including mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, or brother-in-law.
