STUDENT CONDUCT POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for all students at IAI. This policy encompasses expectations regarding harassment, offensive behavior, unsafe work habits, and violence, establishing a framework for proper conduct. IAI prohibits any form of harassment, including sexual harassment and offensive behavior, as well as unsafe work practices and violence, promoting a culture of respect and safety.
HARASSMENT & OFFENSIVE BEHAVIOR
All students are expected to engage respectfully with one another. Harassment or offensive behavior based on race, sex, national origin, disability, age, or religion is strictly prohibited and may result in legal liabilities. Sexual harassment includes any unwelcome sexual advances, physical contact, or verbal/physical conduct of a sexual nature. This includes unwanted comments, jokes, physical touch, and displaying sexually suggestive materials.
UNSAFE WORK HABITS
IAI maintains a zero-tolerance policy for unsafe work habits in the welding lab, classroom, or anywhere on the premises. This includes, but is not limited to, swearing, throwing objects, horseplay, practical jokes, and failure to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Violations will be documented, and continued unsafe behavior will lead to a student being sent home with absence time charged or dismissal.
VIOLENCE & WEAPONS
IAI implements a strict zero-tolerance policy concerning violence in the classroom and welding lab. Any physical or verbal threats, whether made in jest or in seriousness, are prohibited. The possession or use of any weapons on IAI premises is not allowed, except for law enforcement officials. This includes explosives, firearms, and knives exceeding 2.4 inches in blade length. Only pocketknives with blades under 2.36 inches are allowed as tools in the welding lab.
RETALIATION
IAI will not tolerate retaliation against individuals who report violations or participate in investigations related to this policy. Retaliation in any form is a serious violation and must be reported immediately.
ENFORCEMENT
Failure to adhere to this policy will be addressed promptly and will result in disciplinary measures, including but not limited to probation, suspension,dismissal from the program, or legal actions.. All students are encouraged to create a safe and respectful training environment. Students who witness or experience such behavior should report it immediately to the Executive Director. Complaints will be investigated promptly and fairly.
