Regional High School Welding Competition
The Industrial Arts Institute began hosting a High School Welding Competition in 2017 and continues to do so including the next event in January 2023. As many as eighty-nine welders from fourteen different area schools have competed in the past for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in three different welding processes. The competition typically starts at 8:30 AM and conclude at 1:00 PM, with opportunities to win cash awards, scholarships, and welding equipment. Students compete in Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc (GMAW-G), and Flux Cored Arc (FCAW). All participants will receive scholarships to attend the Industrial Arts Institute’s Comprehensive Structural Plate & Pipe Welding Course once they have graduated from High School. The Industrial Arts Institute is thrilled to be hosting these annual High School Welding Competitions that recognize high school talent from across Michigan. Thanks to our generous Sponsors, the only cost to competing schools is their transportation to and from Industrial Arts Institute.
